ENG vs IND 4th Test: India sweat over Pant’s injury as crucial day two awaits

India closed out a dramatic first day (Wednesday) of the ongoing fourth Test against England at Old Trafford on 264/4 after 83 overs, with all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur stranded on 19* each.
After being put into bat, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and KL Rahul (46) laid a strong foundation, adding 94 runs for the first wicket. Rahul also went past 1,000 Test runs on English soil, joining an elite group alongside Tendulkar and others. Meanwhile, batting at number three, Sai Sudharsan repaid the selectors' faith, slamming his maiden Test fifty—61 runs off 151 balls. He anchored the innings before falling to England captain Ben Stokes.
Amidst all this, India were dealt a massive injury blow, with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant being struck on the foot by Chris Woakes while attempting a reverse sweep. He retired hurt on 37, taken off on a medical buggy. His retirement through injury put brakes on India's progress as he was dealing in boundaries.
England, on the other hand, struck back, with wickets falling to Woakes, Stokes, and returning spinner Liam Dawson. Liam Dawson claimed his first Test wicket in eight years when he trapped Jaiswal (58). Heading into day two, England would aim to strike early and bundle out India’s innings. India, on the other hand, would look to build on their platform, with Jadeja and Thakur hoping to put on more runs and set up a decent total.
