DC skipper Rishabh Pant suspended for one match
Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant has been suspended for one match after his team was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct as they maintained a slow-over rate during their match against Rajasthan Royals in the 56th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League on May 7.
In addition to suspension, Pant has been slapped with a fine of INR 30 lakh. Pant will now be overlooking the proceedings from outside during his team’s vital clash against RCB on Sunday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This is Delhi Capitals’ third such offence. With one-match suspension, Pant's absence will be a big blow to DC as they still remain in contention for playoffs.
"As it was his team's third offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” a statement from IPL read.
"As per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the ruling of the Match Referee. Following this, the appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and affirmed that the decision of the Match Referee remains final and binding."
