Former Indian cricketer questions Gautam Gambhir over lack of clarity

Team India has been hit by injury blows ahead of the fourth Test against England, with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Arshdeep Singh being ruled out of the next game. In fact, Reddy has been ruled out of the England tour due to a knee injury picked up during the gym session in the build-up to the fourth Test in Manchester starting July 23. Meanwhile, India have added uncapped all-rounder Anshul Kamboj to their squad as a cover for the fourth Test at Old Trafford.
Notably, ahead of the series, India had included fast bowler Harshit Rana in the squad, but he was later released due to an injury. Following the development, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that India should have picked Rana in place of Kamboj to maintain the continuity.
"Itâs very interesting. There was a lot of chatter about Anshul Kamboj. He did well for India A as well, but when there was an opportunity earlier, the team management chose Harshit Rana first. Anshul was sent back home, and now we are learning about his name again," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
âHarshit Rana is not there. Now you have to wonder, what actually goes on? How do you determine who to keep and who to let go of? If you talk about performances for India A, Anshulâs performance was better, but you kept Harshit Rana looking at continuity,â.
Chopra further said that there is no clarity over the selection process. However, he called Anshul Kambo a deserving player.
âIf that was the case, then you should have kept Harshit Rana now as well. But he is not there; Anshul Kamboj is there. No clarity whatsoever. Maybe the management knows, but nobody is telling us anything. This comes as no surprise. Anshul Kamboj was deserving; he is now with the team,â he said.
