SL vs NEP: Despondent Sri Lanka eye much needed win

Tuesday, 11-Jun-2024
News

Having begun their campaign on a gloomy note, time is running out for distressed Sri Lanka to secure their spot in the Super 8s of the ongoing T20I World 2024. With no wins under their belt, they are teetering on the brink of elimination. The prevailing circumstances have left Sri Lanka in a must-win situation as they face Nepal in their next match on Tuesday at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida

A victory against Nepal is necessary for Sri Lanka to keep their hopes alive for securing a spot in the Super Eights. The team's performance so far has been underwhelming, having suffered defeats against South Africa and Bangladesh respectively. They have lacked both in their planning and  performance, making it requisite to address their shortcomings ahead of the game.

Despite having a strong bowling attack, they have not been able to assess the conditions really well. Heading into this game, Sri Lanka would hope to read the situation well and execute their plan accordingly. Notably, Sri Lanka's batting and bowling lineup have been failing repeatedly, making things worse for the team. But, they will need to come out stronger in this match to revive their campaign.

As the clock ticks down, Sri Lanka would need their experienced players to step up and rescue the team. Nepal, on the other hand, haven’t shown the greater signs after their loss against Netherlands in their opening match. Once again, Nepal will be against a huge team that has the capability to demolish any team.

Sri Lanka Probable XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga (c), Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara

Nepal Probable XI: Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh (wk), Anil Sah, Kushal Malla, Rohit Paudel (c), Dipendra Singh Airee, Gulsan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Abinash Bohara, Sagar Dhakal
