“We really enjoyed together”: Yashasvi Jaiswal on batting alongside Gill

India made a resounding statement on Day 1 of the first Test against England in Leeds, closing the day at a commanding 359 for 3, thanks to breathtaking centuries from young stars Yashasvi Jaiswal and new Test skipper Shubman Gill. The duo’s partnership not only blunted the English bowling attack but also put India into dominance.
The duo’s knocks were a masterclass in patience and placement, taking on English bowlers with full force. Both players put on 129 runs for the third wicket, with Jaiswal scoring 101 and Gill remaining unbeaten on 127. Speaking during the press conference, Jaiswal described the experience of batting alongside Gill as ‘amazing'.
“We have spoken a lot in the middle and we were just trying to make sure that we play session by session and try as many (runs) as we can get. Especially when there is a loose ball, we try to make sure that we put it in the right places.”
Both batters showed maturity, handling the English bowlers with poise. Their shot selection, footwork, and temperament were on full display as they gave India a tremendous start after being put to bat.
“We really enjoyed together. There was amazing camaraderie between us. So, it was amazing to bat with him and he batted really well,” Jaiswal said.
