“India's greatest ever Test batter-keeper”: Ex-Indian cricketer’s massive praise for Pant
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has lavished praise on Rishabh Pant, calling him “India’s greatest ever Test batter-keeper” following Pant’s superb century against England in the ongoing first Test in Leeds. Pant brought up his seventh Test century on Day 2 of the match at Headingley, continuing a remarkable run of form that has now seen him notch three Test tons on English soil alone. Pant scored 134 runs from 178 deliveries.
"By far, India's greatest ever Test batter-keeper. I was worried when he was in the 90s that he might end up getting his 8th 90 of his career. It is just unbelievable that he has so many 90s! But he's a breath of fresh air," Manjrekar told JioStar.
"When he got out and raised his bat, there were a lot of English supporters who stood up and applauded that innings. That's what we love about England -- these guys come to watch good cricket. They want their team to win, but when they see excellence from the opposition, you can see true appreciation for it," he added.
Pant’s powerful knock helped India reach a monumental total of 471. With his seven Test tons, Pant now carries the record for most Test hundreds as a wicketkeeper for India, overtaking MS Dhoni, who has six hundreds. Apart from Pant, Indian captain Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal also fired their tons to put India on top.
