The Hundred competition 2024: All you need to know, teams, rules and more

The fourth edition of The Hundred competition is all set to get underway from Tuesday (23 July), promising a season of high-octane battles. The tournament will witness the presence of whole lot of overseas players. Eight teams will be vying in the tournament, showcasing a blend of local talent and overseas stars. Notably, The Hundred Men’s and Women’s competition is played simultaneously.
The eight teams participating in the tournament are Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire. In the men’s tournament, Oval Invincibles are the defending champions and in the Women’s competition, Southern Brave are the defending champions.
In the tournament, each team bats for 100 balls in a match and the team scoring most wins the game. Each bowler is permitted to bowl 20 balls, and he/she can bowl those 20 balls in five or ten balls set. 25 balls per innings powerplay is allowed in the match, with fielding side allowed to station two fielders on the boundary.
During the course of tournament, each side gets to play eight games. They go against six teams once but they play their local opponents twice. As far as Qualifying scenario is concerned, the top-placed team automatically gets into the final, while second and third-placed teams meet each other in the Eliminator in order to make it to the final.
The final of the tournament will be played on August 18 at Lord’s. In men’s competition, Oval Invincible will be clashing with Birmingham Phoenix in the opener on Tuesday at Kennington Oval, London. In the Women’s competition, Oval Invincibles Women will take on Birmingham Phoenix Women in the opening match on Tuesday at Kennington Oval, London.
